About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity to join our small team of specialist Forensic Vehicle Examiners (FVEs) based in Dorchester.
The role involves forensically examining vehicles, often damaged from their involvement in collisions, and identifying defects. The examinations are undertaken at vehicle recovery garages in the county of Dorset and occasionally in neighbouring counties and occasionally at collision scenes if directed. The wider area potentially covered includes Devon & Cornwall, as the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit (FCIU) is part of the strategic Alliance, spanning all three counties.
Some of the incidents being investigated may be of a distressing or unpleasant nature and, because of this, welfare counselling is offered to post holders.
Following the examination work there is a requirement to produce reports and statements using the evidence obtained during examinations, in accordance with unit standard operating procedures and the Forensic Science Regulator codes. Full details of the Principal responsibilities can be found in the role profile.
There may be an opportunity in the future to increase the hours contracted, if other posts become available in the team.
