Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation
- Assist the cook/chef with basic food preparation such as chopping, peeling, plating, and portion control.
- Prepare simple dishes under supervision (e.g., sandwiches, salads, snacks).
- Ensure dietary requirements and allergies are followed correctly.
Meal Service
- Support the serving of meals to residents, ensuring food is presented attractively and served at the correct temperature.
- Assist in setting up dining rooms and clearing away after meals.
- Offer friendly, respectful assistance to residents during mealtimes.
Kitchen Hygiene & Safety
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment to maintain cleanliness at all times.
- Clean kitchen surfaces, floors, and storage areas according to hygiene standards.
- Follow food safety procedures, including correct storage and labelling of ingredients.
- Support safe disposal of kitchen waste and recycling.
- Comply with all food hygiene regulations (e.g., HACCP guidelines).
Stock & Supplies
- Assist with unpacking deliveries and storing food correctly.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Cook or Manager.
- Rotate stock to ensure freshness and reduce waste..
Desirable
- Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate
- Experience working in a care home, school, or commercial kitchen environment.
- Knowledge of special diets (e.g., soft diets, diabetic, low‑salt).
Personal Attributes

Working Conditions
- Based in the kitchen and dining areas of the care home.
