Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Maintenance Assistant to join our dynamic facilities team. In this vital role, you will support the upkeep and smooth operation of our Hospital, Nursing Home, Clinic, Physical Therapy Gym, and other buildings by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, assisting with repairs, and fulfilling work orders. Your expertise will help ensure a safe, efficient, and well-maintained space for residents, staff, and visitors alike. Duties
1. Responsible for executing work under the direction of the Facilities Director and checks with the Facilities Director daily for work schedule.
2. Helps prepare and maintain preventative maintenance manual. Executes preventive maintenance schedules and daily routine maintenance.
3. Constant alertness to needed repairs and replacements and routinely inspects equipment and building.
4. Subject to emergency call on off-duty hours and holidays.
5. Handles and manipulates tools and equipment and is responsible for the proper use, care and maintenance of all supplies and equipment used in performing maintenance duties.
6. Understands and complies with building and safety codes.
7. Makes out requisitions as needed and assigns priorities to repair requisitions as needed.
8. Makes minor and major repairs on equipment and building.
9. May do some carpentry and other related work.
10. May perform duties concerned with electricity, emergency generator, auto transfer switch, boilers, plumbing, heating, cooling, and water systems.
11. shall not undertake repairs of specialized equipment unless is qualified to do so.
12. Helps prepare and maintain parts lists and inventory of Maintenance Department.
13. Helps maintain all Maintenance Department logs, i.e. daily work log, oxygen, emergency generator, fire alarm tests, and smoke detector tests.
14. Requisitions supplies on the proper form, turns in the requisition to the Facilities Director.
15. Responsible for the proper use, care, and maintenance of all supplies and equipment used in performing maintenance duties.
16. Responsible for the appearance of hospital grounds, care of lawns, shrubs, trees, flowers, and for the maintenance and safe use of garden equipment.
17. Responsible for the care and maintenance of the Business Office, Medical Clinic, Ancillary Buildings and storage buildings.
18. Responsible for driving patients to various appointments, most being over 100 miles away from the facility
19. Responsible for maintaining hospital vehicles (Cleaning, vacuuming, tracking mileage usage, fueling, oil changes, etc,.)
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in facilities maintenance and manufacturing environments
- Experience in electrical systems, schematics interpretation, and troubleshooting using tools like ohmmeters
- Experience working with the public and maintaining professionalism
- Ability to read technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals accurately
- Knowledge of residential painting techniques for property upkeep
- Boiler and HVAC experience is a plus
- Excellent communication skills in English to coordinate with team members and patients/residents effectively
- Familiarity with MaintainX or other software for work order management and documentation
- Basic understanding of schematics related to electrical or mechanical systems
- Customer service orientation with the ability to handle inquiries professionally
