Mission Lay Worker Jobs in Cirencester at Methodist Circuit of Gloucestershire
Cirencester Ashcroft Church is looking to appoint a full-time Mission Lay Worker to work alongside the Minister with pastoral responsibility, supporting the development and delivery of outreach initiatives that strengthen the church’s presence as a trusted, lasting source of faith, witness and community support in Cirencester
Located in a central but economically deprived area of Cirencester, the church serves a primarily older congregation of around 50 members and has a long established role as a community hub.
Its work is rooted in inclusivity and support for vulnerable and marginalised people. Ashcroft hosts numerous community groups and runs its own initiatives focusing on poverty, hospitality, reducing loneliness, and supporting families and carers with pre‑school children. Investment in online services, printed materials, and an enhanced digital presence have strengthened the church’s communication and outreach as well as working closely with other local churches.
You will work alongside Church members and other volunteers involved in the life and work of the church as well as visitors and users of the church premises, supporting the development and delivery of outreach initiatives that strengthen the church’s presence as a lasting source of faith, witness and community support.
We are looking for someone with a calling to this role and who is participating in, and committed to the life of a Christian church or community. Previous experience of working with a wide range of age groups is required as well as engaging with local community initiatives and volunteers.
Excellent listening and verbal communication skills are essential as well as evidence of organisation, administrative and record keeping together with comprehensive IT skills including Microsoft Office, social media and other forms of communication.
You will need to be willing to attend and participate in worship and be able to work a flexible work pattern. This post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure and you will need to have permission to work and be resident in the UK.
A specific faith is a requirement for this role and in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 it is an occupational requirement that the successful applicant is a practicing Christian.
