Job Summary
The Production Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and continuous improvement of a UL 508A-certified electrical panel manufacturing operation.
This role provides strategic direction for production planning, workforce management, quality, safety, and operational efficiency while ensuring electrical control panels are built in compliance with UL 508A, NEC, customer specifications, and company standards. Key
Responsibilities
Production & Scheduling
- Supervise daily panel shop production including layout, wiring, assembly, labeling, and testing of industrial control panels.
- Assign and prioritize work to meet production schedules and UL requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering to resolve drawing issues, revisions, SCCR requirements, and approved substitutions.
- Ensure materials and components are correct, approved, and available prior to build.
- Monitor labor hours, progress, and delivery commitments.
UL 508A Compliance & Inspection Readiness
- Ensure all panel builds comply with UL 508A, NEC, and internal UL procedures.
- Verify proper use of UL-listed or UL-recognized components per BOM and drawings.
- Ensure compliance with conductor sizing, torque, grounding, and labeling requirements.
- Maintain audit readiness and support UL inspections.
- Maintain documentation, traceability, and build records.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Directly supervise, coach, and develop a team of panel builders and electricians; set clear performance expectations and hold team members accountable.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, recognize top performers, and address performance or conduct issues promptly and fairly.
- Identify and close skills gaps through structured on-the-job training, cross-training, and development planning.
- Build and sustain a team culture grounded in quality ownership, mutual accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Manage staffing levels and scheduling to align with production demands, including decisions on overtime, coverage, and temporary resources.
Safety & Compliance
- Serve as the primary safety authority on the shop floor — enforce OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and electrical safety practices without exception.
- Ensure correct PPE usage, safe tool handling, and compliance with lockout/tagout and arc flash procedures at all times.
- Maintain 5S standards and a clean, organized, hazard-free work environment.
- Lead or participate in incident investigations; implement corrective actions and follow-up to closure.
- Represent the shop in safety committee meetings and contribute to company-wide safety initiatives.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and champion process improvements that reduce waste, rework, and cycle time while improving quality and safety.
- Use data (scrap rates, labor efficiency, audit findings, delivery performance) to drive fact-based decisions and prioritize improvement efforts.
- Collaborate with engineering and management to implement and sustain improvements to standard work and shop processes.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent coursework preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in industrial electrical panel fabrication, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity with direct reports.
- Demonstrated experience in a UL 508A-certified shop environment strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of meeting production schedules, managing a skilled trade team, and sustaining quality standards.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel drawings.
- Strong working knowledge of UL 508A, NEC, and industrial control panel construction standards.
- Familiarity with NEMA enclosure ratings, short-circuit current ratings (SCCR), and UL inspection requirements.
- Capable of troubleshooting panel wiring, identifying non-conformances, and directing corrective rework.

Working Conditions
Panel shop manufacturing environment with regular exposure to electrical components, hand and power tools, and industrial equipment. Requires prolonged standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, and the ability to work in tight spaces. PPE is required and provided. Occasional overtime required to meet production commitments.

Pay: $75,367.24 – $84,291.73 per year
