Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and treatment options to promote long-term oral health.
- Assist with chairside procedures such as taking dental radiographs (medical imaging), applying sealants, and fluoride treatments.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Follow infection control protocols, including aseptic technique and sterilization procedures, to ensure a safe environment for all.
- Support general dentistry procedures and collaborate with dentists during complex treatments or pediatric dentistry cases.
Skills
- Proficiency with dental software such as Dentrix for scheduling, documentation review, and record keeping.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control standards aligned with HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to measure vital signs accurately and perform basic medical assessments when necessary.
- Familiarity with medical coding and documentation review to ensure compliance with healthcare standards.
