About the Role

A sixteen‑month post to lead qualitative fieldwork exploring the implementation of a new approach to early help for young children likely to have difficulties with language and communication, as part of the ESCALATER research project across England.

Responsibilities

  • Lead qualitative fieldwork, including interviews, focus groups and observations with front line staff, managers, parents, carers and children across multiple sites in England.
  • Support the delivery of qualitative work on the NIHR PRP–funded ESCALATER study, including research activity, writing up research for publication and collaborating with project partners.
  • Travel to different parts of England for in‑person fieldwork as required.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand implementation processes, experiences of health visitors, speech and language therapists, parents and the effects of ELIM-I on service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Excellent practical, analytic and conceptual skills in multi‑method qualitative research.
  • Knowledge of contemporary debates in implementation in health and/or social care, and familiarity with speech, language and communication needs is desirable.
  • Ability to travel for data collection across the UK.
  • Hold a PhD, have submitted your PhD or be due to submit within the next two months, or have equivalent experience in a health and/or social science related discipline.

Other Information

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Fixed‑term for 16 months, starting 1 August 2026 and running to 30 November 2027, with potential for a short extension subject to funding.
