Sheet Metal Technician Jobs in Cheyenne, WY at High Plains Custom Metal
We’re looking for a dependable, motivated Sheet Metal Technician to join our fabrication team. This is an entry-level position with real opportunities to grow your skills and advance within the company. You’ll be an essential part of our production floor — operating precision metal fabrication equipment, maintaining quality standards, and helping fulfill orders that go directly to roofing contractors and builders.
What you’ll do
- Operate roll-forming machines to produce standing seam, through-fastener, and board & batten metal roofing panels to specification
- Use a metal shear/slitter to cut and size sheet metal stock accurately
- Operate a metal brake to fabricate custom bends for drip edge, ridge caps, and other accessories
- Read and follow job orders to ensure panels and trim pieces are produced to the correct profile, length, and quantity
- Perform quality checks on finished product for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and profile consistency
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on the production floor
- Assist with receiving, staging, and moving material and finished product using material handling equipment
- Collaborate with fellow team members to meet daily production targets and order deadlines
- Support general shop duties as needed, including inventory counts and equipment cleaning
What we’re looking for
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious — you show up ready to work
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and perform physical tasks throughout the workday
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Good organizational and time-management skills — able to prioritize and keep pace in a production environment
- Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn new equipment and processes quickly
- Comfortable working in a shop/warehouse environment with exposure to noise, metal dust, and varying temperatures
- Team-oriented attitude with good communication skills
Preferred (not required)
- Prior experience operating roll-forming machines, metal shears/slitters, or metal brakes in a manufacturing or fabrication setting
- Familiarity with standing seam, through-fastener, or board & batten metal roofing products
- Forklift or telehandler certification or operating experience
- Experience working in a production, manufacturing, or construction materials environment
