Roots Catering is looking for an ambitious Sous Chef or Junior Sous Chef to join our award-winning team at Southend Barns, one of the South’s leading wedding venues.
We create fresh, seasonal food for luxury weddings and events, cooking everything properly from scratch using the best local produce we can get our hands on.
Our food is all about flavour first. We work closely with local suppliers, champion seasonal ingredients and take pride in creating dishes that look beautiful but, more importantly, taste incredible.

The Role
Working alongside our Head Chef, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, helping to deliver exceptional food for weddings and events throughout the year.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and cooking fresh seasonal menus
- Leading sections and supporting service at weddings and events
- Assisting with ordering and stock control
- Training and developing junior team members
- Maintaining exceptional food safety and hygiene standards
- Helping develop new dishes and menu ideas
- Taking responsibility within the kitchen when required
About You
We’re looking for someone who genuinely loves cooking and wants to continue developing their career within a professional fresh-food kitchen.
You may already be a Sous Chef, or perhaps an experienced Chef de Partie or Junior Sous Chef looking for the next step.
