As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Senior Automation & Commissioning Engineer to support machine installations, commissioning, servicing and technical improvements across our machinery range.
What You’ll Do
This role involves regular travel both within the UK and internationally. The successful candidate will work closely with our manufacturing partners in China, supporting factory acceptance testing, machine development and technical problem solving. You will also spend time at customer sites across the UK, leading installations, commissioning machinery, resolving technical issues and ensuring customers achieve the best possible performance from their equipment.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership and working directly with customers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Installing, commissioning and supporting packaging machinery at customer sites throughout the UK
- Leading machine servicing, repairs, breakdown response and technical troubleshooting activities
- Diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, PLC and automation faults
- Travelling internationally, including visits to manufacturing partners in China, to support machine development, factory testing and technical issue resolution
- Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and machine performance validation
- Working closely with manufacturing partners and customers to identify root causes, implement corrective actions and drive continuous improvement
- Supporting machine upgrades, modifications and new product development projects
- Producing technical documentation and delivering operator and maintenance training to customers
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an experienced engineer with a strong understanding of industrial automation, packaging machinery or special purpose machinery.
You will ideally have:
- Experience installing, commissioning and servicing industrial machinery
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
- PLC and HMI troubleshooting experience (Siemens preferred)
- Experience working with conveyors, weighing systems, filling equipment, packaging machinery or automated production systems
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics and manuals
- Understanding of machine safety, risk assessments and compliance requirements
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with customers
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
Desirable
- Electrical qualifications, apprenticeship or engineering qualification
- Experience with packaging machinery and end-of-line automation
- Experience writing technical manuals and documentation
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Experience working with imported machinery and machinery modifications
